Betting apps, and where to get them
11 of the 13 bookmakers licensed in Ghana publish an app. This page says which platform each one is on, what its own storefront rates it, what it costs to download on a data bundle, and which welcome offer quietly stops working if you deposit from the website instead.
Every app in the market, and what the stores say
| Bookmaker | iOS | Android | Store rating | Download | Get it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MSport | Yes | Yes | 4.5 | n/a | MSport site |
| Bangbet | Yes | Yes | 4.3 | 37.9 MB | Bangbet site |
| SportyBet | Yes | Yes | 4.4 | n/a | SportyBet site |
| Soccabet | Yes | Yes | 4.2 | 33.0 MB | Soccabet site |
| Betway | Yes | Yes | 4.2 | n/a | Betway site |
| betPawa | Yes | Yes | 4.0 | 17.8 MB | betPawa site |
| 1xBet | Yes | Yes | 4.0 | n/a | 1xBet site |
| BetFox | No | Yes | n/a | 0.31 MB | BetFox site |
| 22Bet | No | Yes | n/a | n/a | 22Bet site |
| Betwinner | No | Yes | n/a | n/a | Betwinner site |
| Melbet | Yes | Yes | 3.2 | 261.3 MB | Melbet site |
Links go to each operator's own site rather than to a store, because the store listing that is correct for you depends on where your account is registered, and because the app is not where an account is opened.
The offer that only exists inside the app
SportyBet
The qualifying deposit has to be made inside the Android or iOS app. A deposit from the website earns nothing, and the ladder needs roughly GH₵334 before the GH₵500 ceiling is in reach.
The offer as recorded: 150% first deposit bonus up to GH₵500 in free bets, in the app.
It is the one condition on this page that costs real money to miss, and it is not reversible: the qualifying deposit is the first one, and a first deposit made in the wrong place cannot be made again.
What an install costs on a data bundle
Download size is not a footnote in this market. Melbet is 261.3 MB and betPawa is 17.8 MB, roughly 15 times the difference, and that gap is paid for out of a bundle by whoever installs it. It is the strongest argument on this page for installing over wifi and for keeping an app you are not using off the phone.
BetFox sits outside that comparison at 0.31 MB, which is a wrapper around the mobile site rather than a native application. It costs almost nothing to install and it will use the same data as the website every time it opens, so the saving is on the download and not on the betting.
The other 6 apps publish no size, so there is nothing to compare them on.
Installing an Android build that is not on Play
Some Ghanaian books distribute Android directly rather than through the store. Where that is the case the operator's own site is the only source worth using, and the steps are the same everywhere.
- Start on the operator's own domain. Open the bookmaker's site and take the download link from it. Not from a search result, not from a WhatsApp forward, and not from a review site. The file is the thing that will hold your account credentials.
- Expect the phone to object. Android will ask for permission to install from the browser you are using. That prompt is the system working correctly, and granting it for one install is fine.
- Turn the permission back off. Once the app is installed, revoke the browser's install permission. Leaving it on is what turns one deliberate install into an accidental one later.
- Register on the number you will be paid on. Ghanaian operators pay out to the mobile money wallet the account was opened with. Getting that wrong at registration is the most common reason a withdrawal is held, and it is covered in full on our payments page.
Two with no app at all
No app is published on either platform.
No iOS app and no Play listing, and there is no online account behind one either: no wallet, no deposit, no withdrawal and no casino. Bets are booked online and settled through an agent or by mobile money, so an app would have nothing to log into.
Asked about betting apps
Where should I download a Ghanaian betting app from?
The operator's own site, or the store listing the operator links to from it. Nowhere else. This page hosts no installer and never will: nobody pays a commission on a download, so an affiliate offering you an APK has a reason for it that has nothing to do with you. An installer served from a third party cannot be verified, goes stale on the next update, and is the same shape as the "predictor" packages circulating here.
Do I have to use the app to claim a welcome offer?
At SportyBet, yes, and it is the most expensive thing to get wrong on this page. The qualifying deposit has to be made inside the app. The same deposit made on the website earns nothing at all, and there is no route back to it afterwards.
Which betting app uses the least data to install?
Of the apps whose size is published, betPawa is the smallest at 17.8 MB and Melbet is the largest at 261.3 MB, which is about 15 times the download. On a bundle that is a real difference, and it is worth doing over wifi.
Is there an iPhone app for every Ghanaian bookmaker?
No. 8 of the 13 live books publish an iOS app, and iOS is the side of the market that thins out fastest: several operators run Android only, and one has no app on either platform because it has no online account to put in one.
Are the star ratings your testing?
No. They are the ratings on the Ghanaian storefronts, carried here because they are a real signal about crash rates and support and because inventing our own score for an app we have not instrumented would be worse. 8 of the 11 apps carry one.
What about an app that promises to predict Aviator?
It is not a betting app and it cannot do what it says. There is more on that on our Aviator page. The relevant point here is the phone: those packages are distributed outside the stores and ask for permissions on the handset that holds your mobile money wallet.
